Benchmark Listing Confirms Acer Liquid S2 with Android 4.2 and Snapdragon 800
Aug 29th 2013, 18:47, by Maximus

As we're nearing the biggest tech event of the fall, IFA Berlin, scheduled to take place between September 6 and 11, the plans of most major (and minor) Android players become clearer and clearer by the day.

Acer, while still being viewed as a low-ranked soldier in the grand Android army, is reportedly planning to live in the shadows no more and step up towards the light. In less vague terms, the Taiwanese are looking to intro a new flagship phone during or before IFA, which for once could actually put the company on the map.

Leaked to the press not long ago as the Liquid S2, the fellow has been benchmarked over at GFX Bench, even if it carries a different name – S520. So how can we be so sure we're looking at the same device? Well, the Liquid S1, which is already out and about, carries the model number S510, so it only makes sense for the S520 to be that thing's sequel.

Now, what does GFX Bench reveal about the Liquid S2 that we didn't know of? Not much. In fact, it crushes a few dreams, listing the phone with on-board Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and not 5.0 Key Lime Pie, which that roadmap seemed to suggest.

Then again, you didn't really think Google would do Acer such a huge favor and let them test KLP with a couple of months still left to go until the new software's formal intro, did you?

Meanwhile, the S520 (also codenamed "Hemingway") seems to sport a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution (aka Full HD) screen and an explosive 2.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU paired with an Adreno 330 GPU.

There's a small discrepancy there as well between what the benchmark lists and what the roadmap hinted the Liquid S2 would pack, as the first report had the SoC mentioned with a more impressive clock speed of 2.3 GHz.

Oh, well, that shouldn't make such a huge difference, only now I'm starting to have doubts as to the S2's rumored screen size (5.98 inches) and even RAM (2 gigs). But I guess we should all keep our calm and wait for IFA to fill in the blanks.

In the meantime, one very important question – would you or won't you go for an Acer phone provided it can match the looks, raw speed and smoothness of the latest spearheads from Samsung, LG, Sony or HTC? Would at least lower pricing than the competition make a difference? Let us know below.
