Ericsson's Mobile Cloud Accelerator solution, a result of the strategic alliance with Akamai, has scooped the Best Broadband Cloud Award at Broadband World Forum 2012.
Ericsson topped a shortlist of four contenders in the category – part of the annual Broadband InfoVision Awards – at the event in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The award was created to recognize "an excellent product, service, device or innovation in the area of cloud services by a telecom-solutions vendor or a broadband operator/service provider (fixed or wireless) launched between July 2011 and June 2012, which offered significant new prospects for increased revenue, managing costs, improving quality or increasing customer satisfaction."
The awarding body's description of Ericsson's Mobile Cloud Accelerator said the solution was designed to ensure end-to-end QoE for premium mobile-content delivery, by combining internet acceleration and mobile prioritization.
"Mobile Cloud Accelerator provides operators with a way to monetize over-the-top content delivery end-to-end in a way that content providers are offered a guaranteed QoE when their content is delivered over a mobile network," the shortlist citation read.
The citation highlighted the partnership with Akamai, saying the solution helped connect thousands of content providers with hundreds of operators through a single interface "dramatically simplifying both technical operations and business relationships."
"The Mobile Cloud Accelerator is run as a service, which eliminates the need for upfront investments and opens up for new business models," the shortlist citation read.
