In Thailand, 2011 will be remembered as the worst year for flooding in the country's history. Some 13.6 million people were affected, with 65 of Thailand's 77 provinces so badly hit, they were declared disaster zones.
The floodwaters came fast, leading to a rapid shift in focus at AIS. The race was on to secure the operation of the network, so a business continuity plan was implemented immediately.
During the flooding, Ericsson worked on two fronts: carrying out the network upgrade in challenging conditions while securing essential communication services at the same time. This meant neither the victims of the flooding nor the rescue services were without the means to communicate at any point.
