Huawei Unveils Largest Capacity Case-Shaped OTN Product
Feb 6th 2013, 19:03

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, launched the OSN 1800 V at the global 100G WDM/OTN Seminar 2013 in Switzerland. The OSN 1800 V, Huawei's new case-shaped OTN product, features the industry's largest access capacity and highest integration among products of the same type, and offers a multi-service switching capacity of up to 700 G.

The emergence of mobile broadband, streaming media, and large-granularity private line services calls for multi-service transport over ultra broadband, which traditional Metro networks fail to provide. Case-shaped, "one-box" MS-OTN devices that can provide both multi-service transport and large capacity are ideal for Metro.

The OSN 1800 V, with 5U height, adopts an innovative central switching design and thereby offers a switching capacity of up to 700 G, meeting the future bandwidth requirements of Metro network for the next five years. Furthermore, the OSN 1800 V supports the unified access and switching of TDM/packet services with rates ranging from 2 Mb/s to 10 Gb/s, catering for requirements of varied services such as voice, video, and high-speed Internet access. Through unified transport for broadband, private line, and wireless scenarios, the OSN 1800 V also effectively reduces device types on Metro and simplifies network deployment and O&M.

"Large-capacity WDM device can also be mini and compact. By extending WDM technologies to the edge, Huawei's OSN 1800 V provides a carefree, ultra-broadband transport solution for Metro network, achieving bandwidth-on-demand in real sense," said Jack Wang, president of Huawei's transport product line.

Huawei is a pioneer in the transport network field and has deployed 100G networks for more than 50 operators worldwide. According to consultancy firm Ovum, Huawei ranked No. 1 in the global optical network, WDM/OTN, 100G and 40G network markets, as of Q3 2012.
